The Sentinel on Main River is a 30-storey apartment development located on the foreshore of Budds Beach, Surfers Paradise, Australia.
Sentinel is a 30 level luxury residential apartment tower with two levels of basement located immediately on Main River in the heart of Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. Construction was completed in 2001.
In the initial stages of the development complicated reclamation and sheet piling challenges had to be resolved and managed as the basement was constructed in the natural river course.
Our design practice conceived a tiered building form which responded to the unique planning requirements of the area. The layout of the lower floors was a combination of 2 bedrooms apartments, which reverted in the mid-levels to two 3 bedroom apartments per floor and then a series of whole floor sub penthouses on the upper floors.
The apartments where orientated north to take advantage of the Broadwater and of the Pacific Ocean views, with large floor to ceiling glass sliding doors provided access to the large functional balconies.
The ground level public areas overlook an expansive pool and water feature with an infinity edge linking the development to its Main River location.
Sentinel was designed and project managed by Willemsen.
